The wonderful Maine scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This section of Crooked River in Oxford Cumberland County is 17 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room     before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Crooked River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain, and the driest   of the months is September. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Crooked River. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Crooked River dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.
