If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The wonderful Maine scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Getting some good exercise
and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There's camping available near Damariscotta River. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is the only paddling stretch along Damariscotta
River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section of Damariscotta River in Maine is 1.4 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: Wiley Point is close by and always great to go to, and nearby you stumble on Glidden Ledge which is a great location to stop by. A large amount of precipitation falls at Damariscotta
River; through November this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. Summertime at Damariscotta River comes with high temperatures in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Damariscotta River are in the 0's.
