This section of Dead River - North Branch is 19 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The beautiful scenery of Maine and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The Chain Lakes to Eustis stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with
plenty of places for that. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up
sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
