If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Rockland, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Black Brook to Ducktrap Harbor section of Ducktrap River in Maine is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V section. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. The wonderful Maine scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Ducktrap River make the trip here worthwhile. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch is short so you'd better be
prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are no other stretches to paddle along Ducktrap River than the Black Brook to Ducktrap Harbor stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Ducktrap River a wet spot; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and July is the month with the least moisture. All through the days of summer here at Ducktrap River, high temperatures
typically get into the 70's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 30's, and overnight lows at Ducktrap River throughout the winter commonly descend into the 10's. Taking a little tour to close by Frohock Point
is a tremendous idea, and time spent at Pebble Beach is always nice. This river has it all. There is a wonderful hiking trail near Ducktrap River called the Mount Megunticook Trail. The Spring Brook Trail is a great hiking trail next to Ducktrap River, and a day at lovely Cals Beach near Ducktrap River is a delightful thing to do.
