If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch of Machias River in Maine is 36.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-IV section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. The natural beauty of Washington County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you
feel great. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Machias River mostly gets a good deal of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is November, and the driest month of the year is June. Summertime highs at Machias River commonly tend to be in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are
