The wonderful Penobscot County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Martin Stream attract people from near and far. This stretch of Martin Stream is 16 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The campgrounds here at Martin Stream are pretty good. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. A good
workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Dixmont to Newport stretch is the only paddling stretch along Martin Stream. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
