  The nature scenery of Penobscot County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Kingman to Mattawamkeag section of Mattawamkeag is 12.5 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these
    hotels fill up quick. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Kingman to Mattawamkeag stretch is just one of
many. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
