This stretch of Mopang Stream is 23.8 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Washington County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so don't forget
that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby
hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer months at Mopang Stream highs are mostly in the 70's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 20's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Mopang Stream fall into the 0's. The high level of precipitation makes Mopang Stream a relatively wet place; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily November, that's the one that rains the most, and June is when it's the driest.
