This stretch of Narraguagus River in Maine is 25 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
The Deer Lake to Deblois section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The scenic beauty of Washington County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and
near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: There are pleasant places to look at along the Lead Mountain Trail. Summertime highs at Narraguagus River regularly tend to be in the 70's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are typically in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Narraguagus River. All
the water falling down from the sky makes Narraguagus River a wet place; through the month of November you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February.
