This river was fantastic for swimming in. I got about 10 leeches on me though. All well! Says Jill Wollygag
If you're coming from Lewiston-Auburn it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The scenic beauty of Maine and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to
paddle. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The Headwaters to Androscoggin River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away
from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
