The Nicatous Lake to Pistol Green section of Nicatous Stream in Maine is 7.8 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wonderful Hancock County scenery and the
sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This is the only paddling section along Nicatous Stream. The campgrounds here at Nicatous Stream are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way
around here you'll find a large number of good spots. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly about the general area: Have a nice hiking adventure along the Eagle Lake Trail. Nicatous Stream is a rather wet place frequently with much rainfall; through November this area sees the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. The warmest time of the year at Nicatous Stream comes with high temperatures in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's with temperatures at Nicatous Stream dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
