Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Old Stream doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Second Lake to Machias River stretch is the only one.     Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maine you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy.
