Maine whitewater - Oyster River, Knox County Knox county, West Rockport to Warren section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     11.5 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Rockland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Maine scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The West Rockport to Warren stretch is the only paddling stretch along Oyster River. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make     it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Briefly about the general area: Oyster River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is July. For the period of the warmest time of the year at Oyster River temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 50's.
