If you're coming from Augusta-Waterville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not     as hard as elsewhere. The Bristol to Pemaquid section of Pemaquid River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. This is the only paddling stretch along Pemaquid River. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Briefly about the general area: A day at striking Pemaquid Beach close to Pemaquid River is a great thing to do. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Pemaquid River. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's; through the dark hours in the winter at Pemaquid   River temperatures sink to the 0's. Pemaquid River gets much water; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
