This section of Penobscot River in Penobscot County is 6 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful scenery of Penobscot County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There     are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Old Town 2nd Dam to Veazie Dam section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Briefly about the general area: All through the long summer days highs here at Penobscot River get into the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. During the winter highs are mostly in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Penobscot River. A wooded vicinity in close proximity to Penobscot River is University Forest.
