The natural beauty of Penobscot County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Quackish Dam to Shad Pond section of Penobscot River - West Branch in Maine is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The sections     for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
