The Ripogenus Gorge to Debsconeag section of Penobscot River - West Branch in Piscataquis County is 17 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons
    to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There are some good sections to paddle
