The starting location is a short drive from Bangor, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Maine and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The Medford to Maxfield stretch of Piscataquis River is 5.4 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer
whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There's camping available near Piscataquis River. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and just hanging out with
mother nature have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
