The natural beauty of Maine and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The Medford to Maxfield stretch of Piscataquis River is 5.4 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer     whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There's camping available near Piscataquis River. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Scutaze Trail is always a nice adventure, and there are good locations to discover along the Hardy Pond Trail. For the duration of the warm months at Piscataquis River   highs are typically in the 70's, and the night is somewhat chillier of course, typically in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Piscataquis River are in the-10's.
