Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Rapid River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Pond in River to Lake Umbagog section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels     fill up quick. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip.
