Says Bruce The Pond in River to Lake Umbagog stretch of Rapid River is 5.25 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots     in Maine are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The Pond in River to Lake Umbagog stretch is the only paddling stretch along Rapid River. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The natural beauty of Maine and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. When you're paddling down a White Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Old Magalloway Trail is brilliant fun. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Rapid River. Summer overnight lows descend down to the 50's.   Throughout the wintertime highs are mostly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Rapid River are in the-10's. Rapid River gets a typical amount of annual precipitation; most of the rain falls during August while February is frequently the driest month.
