If you're coming from Portland-South Portland it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Yarmouth Waterworks to Town Landing section of Royal River in Maine is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Maine and the sparkling of
the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Royal River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Yarmouth Waterworks to Town Landing stretch is the only one. If you'll
be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Royal River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.
Briefly about the general area: East End Beach is right next door to Royal River and is a beautiful beach to
visit. If you're here at Royal River, do take a visit to Callen Point; close by Sandy Point Ledges is a tremendous site to go. The high level of rainfall makes Royal River a reasonably wet spot; during the month of November you get the most rain around here while September
is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Royal River through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Royal River dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
