  The natural beauty of Cumberland County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Portland-South Portland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is an extremely short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. A bit of
    exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Royal River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Yarmouth Waterworks to Town Landing section is the only one. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. This section of Royal River in Maine is 1 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Why not pop by Callen Point also since you're here; if you want to hit the beach, East End Beach is around here. Royal River is a quite wet place commonly with a large amount of rainfall; through the month of November you get the most rain around here,
 
and September is the month with the least moisture.
All through the warm days of summer highs here at Royal River get into the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Royal River. While staying at Royal River you could always look at Sandy Point Ledges.
