  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maine you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The Phillips through town stretch of Sandy River is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The beautiful
    scenery of Maine and the water flowing gracefully down Sandy River will make you feel great. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The
nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Summertime highs at Sandy River typically tend to be in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Through the wintertime highs are frequently in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Sandy River are in the 0's.
