The Phillips to Fairbanks Bridge stretch of Sandy River in Maine is 17 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Phillips to Fairbanks Bridge stretch is just one of them. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room     before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The starting location is a short drive from Lewiston-Auburn, as you can see on the road map further down.
