  This stretch of Sandy River in Maine is 17 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a
    large number of paddling spots. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you're coming from Lewiston-Auburn it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. There's camping available
near Sandy River. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Phillips to Fairbanks Bridge stretch is just one of them. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The scenic beauty of Maine and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far.
