  The Farmington Falls to New Sharon stretch of Sandy River in Maine is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Franklin County and the water flowing gracefully down Sandy River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting point is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, as you can see on the road map further down. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Farmington Falls to New Sharon section is just one of them. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking
    outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Throughout the warm days of summer highs here at Sandy River reach the 70's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Sandy River temperatures plunge to the 0's.
A lot of rain falls at Sandy River; the month with most of the rain is November, and the driest of the months is February.
