The Lower Togue Pond to Millicocket Lake stretch of Sandy Stream is 10.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Sandy Stream doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Lower Togue Pond to Millicocket Lake stretch is the only one. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Getting a good workout and
a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
