  The Haymock Lake to Eagle lake stretch of Smith Brook is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The scenic beauty of Piscataquis County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is a pretty decent length section, good
    for a one day paddling trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Haymock Lake to Eagle lake section is the only paddling section along Smith Brook. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do
book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places.

Briefly about the general area:
During the days of summer at Smith Brook temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's while Smith Brook overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the-10's. Smith Brook is a good place of normal precipitation; July is when you get the
 
most rain here, and the driest of the months is February.
Going for a hike along the Telephone Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
