This stretch of St. George River is 30.3 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds
here at St. George River are pretty good. This is the only paddling stretch along St. George River. The starting location is a short drive from Rockland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. A stretch this long is of course too much
for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
