The starting point is not too far from Bangor, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The     Gilman Falls section is the only paddling section along Stillwater River. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful scenery of Penobscot County and the water flowing gracefully down Stillwater River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: Stillwater River ordinarily gets much rainfall; during November this area sees the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Stillwater River throughout the months of summer are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's.
