  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maine you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The nature scenery of Oxford County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Whitewater paddling here in the White Mountains is a great experience. This stretch of Sunday River in Maine is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number
    of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Sunday River. The Above Pool to Androscoggin section is the only paddling section along Sunday River. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
Sunday River gets a typical amount of yearly rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August while February is commonly the driest month. The warmest time of the year at Sunday River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's; winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Sunday River.
There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Sunday River.
