The Great Pond to Goodwin Bridge stretch of Union River - West Branch in Maine is 17 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you
take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nature scenery of Hancock County and the water flowing gracefully down Union River - West Branch are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
