The natural beauty of Oxford County and the water flowing gracefully down Wild River beats anything. Whitewater paddling here in the White Mountains is a great experience. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Wild River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Hastings
to Gilead section is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a
large number of good spots. The campgrounds here at Wild River are pretty good. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maine you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes.
