This stretch of Anacostia River - Northwest Branch in Maryland is 8 miles long and is a class I-III(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maryland tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Prince Georges/ Montgomery County and the beautiful way the water current
moves down the stream have people coming here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the US Route 29 to Hyattsville stretch is one of them. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip.
Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Valley Trail; don't leave Anacostia River - Northwest Branch without first paying a visit to Takoma Spring. Going for a hike on the White Horse Trail is always a great adventure.
