Maryland whitewater - Antietam Creek, Washington County Washington county, Oak Bridge to Highway 68 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     7 miles   Wow, I live on Little Antietam and the creek seemed at normal level so we went to Funkstown and dropped our canoe in. It was great.  My husband was fishing and I was just enjoying the ride.  Just after we passed the area that is closest to Alt 40 and Cool Hollow Rd we hit rock.  For the next 3 hours we scooted, pushed and walked till we hit the bridge on Barnes Rd.  What a drag.  If the water fall shown is past that I guess I'll never see it. Says The put-in location is a short drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, there's a road map further down     the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maryland are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The campgrounds here at Antietam Creek are pretty good. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This section of Antietam Creek is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is   available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: At Antietam Creek during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Antietam Creek. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Antietam Creek; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while January is mostly the driest month.
