This section of Antietam Creek in Washington County is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Oak Bridge to Highway 68 section is one of them. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in
this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: An average amount of rain falls at Antietam Creek; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is January. For the period of the warmest time of the year at Antietam Creek temperatures are frequently in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Antietam Creek.
this is a very nice stretch that also offers good fishing. I guide smallmouth and trout fishing by kayak on this stretch and the 7 miles downstream.
