If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The natural beauty of Maryland and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots
of good places for that around here. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The Highway 68 to Potomac River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend
some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section of Antietam Creek is 11 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: Sharpsburg Spring is an inspiring place to go to while here; hiking along the Snavelys Ford Trail is nice fun. For the duration of the summer months at Antietam Creek highs are mostly
in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Antietam Creek. Antietam Creek gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is January.
