Maryland whitewater - Beaver Creek, Washington County

Washington county, Beaver Creek Park N Ride (I-70) to Alternate Route 40 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I(II)     4.5 miles
The average Maryland whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. If you're coming from Hagerstown-Martinsburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Washington County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll
find lots of paddling places. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch of
Beaver Creek in Maryland is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I(II) section. There are many good hotels to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Paddler input for Beaver Creek, Maryland:

Some additional information that you might be interested in about Beaver Creek is that it is a true limestone spring fed creek.  That means that it has warm water in the Winter and cool water in the Summer.  The upwelling of water through the limestone bedrock creates a unique ecosystem in Maryland with freshwater shrimp, watercress, and lots of well fed trout.  In Winter, this stream can be 10 degrees warmer than any other water and this really attracts wildlife, especially ducks.  This is a wonderful little creek to paddle in a 9-10 foot kayak.  I guide trout fishing on this stream and it is one of my favorite creeks in Maryland.  It holds some trout over 6 lbs. throughout the year.  I do not reccommend kayaking this creek in April because there are lots of people fishing for trout.  If you would like more free information or to book a scenic paddle or trout fishing day, feel free to contact me at 301-432-8469 or visit my website at http://www.fishnfloatadventures.com - Dan Hodkinson
