This section of Casselman River is 11.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. If you're coming from Somerset it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. There are so many sections to paddle in

Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Casselman River, and the overnight is a tad cooler of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Casselman River. Casselman River gets lots of water; during the month of July you get the most rain around here; the driest month is February.
