Maryland whitewater - Conowingo Creek, Cecil County Cecil county, Oakwood to Susquehanna River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V     2 miles   This stretch of Conowingo Creek in Cecil County is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Maryland and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The campgrounds here at Conowingo Creek are pretty good. There are no other sections to paddle along Conowingo Creek than the Oakwood to Susquehanna River section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very     popular destination. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maryland are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Lancaster, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: Conowingo Creek gets a normal amount of rain; the month with most of the rain is July, and February is the month with the least moisture. High temperatures at Conowingo Creek throughout the warm days of summer are in the   80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Conowingo Creek. Glen Cove is nearby and always glorious to stop at.
