The wonderful Garrett County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. The starting location is a short drive from Cumberland, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Swanton Maryland to Savage Reservoir stretch is the only paddling stretch
along Crabtree Creek. The campgrounds here at Crabtree Creek are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This section of Crabtree Creek is 6 miles long and
is a class III-IV+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Crabtree Creek a rather wet spot; during July this area sees the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Hungry Hollow is a great spot to pop by nearby. Summer
