This stretch of Crabtree Creek is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+ section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This is the only paddling stretch along Crabtree Creek. If you're coming from Cumberland it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of Maryland and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here
and paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. You can pitch a
tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Crabtree Creek. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Crabtree Creek descend into the 10's. Hungry Hollow is close to Crabtree Creek and is a brilliant place. The high level of precipitation makes Crabtree Creek a reasonably wet location; July is the month that gets the most rain while February is usually the driest month.
