Dam to Youghiogheny River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V 1.4 miles
The natural beauty of Garrett County and the water flowing gracefully down Deep Creek attract people from near and far. This is the only paddling stretch along Deep Creek. This section of Deep Creek is 1.4 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is an extremely short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because
it is a very popular destination. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. No matter if you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Deep Creek are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: A spree to Muddy Creek Falls will fill your soul with pleasant feelings, and a day on the slopes of Wisp is just what you need. For the duration of the summer highs here at Deep Creek get into the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Deep Creek are in the 10's. Don't leave Deep Creek without
first paying a visit to Lower Swallow Falls. All the water falling down from the sky makes Deep Creek a wet place; most of the rain falls through July, and February is the month with the least moisture.
