The Dam to Youghiogheny River section of Deep Creek in Maryland is 1.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. The wonderful Garrett County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Deep Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maryland you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There's camping available near Deep Creek. There are plenty of
hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Deep Creek a wet place; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily July, that's the one that rains the most; the driest month of the year is February. Lower Swallow Falls is always fun to check out, and everyone nearby loves skiing at Wisp. All through the summertime here at Deep Creek, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's. For the period of the moonlight
hours it's ordinarily in the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Deep Creek. Muddy Creek Falls is a delightful location to go to while you're at Deep Creek.
