The natural beauty of Maryland and the water flowing gracefully down Georges Creek will make you feel great. The put-in location is a short drive from Cumberland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. This stretch of Georges
Creek is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great
attractions for lots of people. There are no other sections to paddle along Georges Creek than the Maryland Route 36 to North Branch Potomac River section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: The yearly rainfall here at Georges Creek is about average; the month with most of the rain is July, and February is when it's the driest. All through the summer months at Georges Creek highs are frequently in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures
are in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Georges Creek.
