Maryland whitewater - Gunpowder Falls, Baltimore County
Baltimore
county,
Graves Run Road to Prettyboy Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 2 miles
OK so after checking this one out today I was sorely disappointed. it is in no way a II-III, more like a slow moving I, not even a I-II. Also the put in location is on some private property farm so good luck getting in the water at some point where the river isn't congested down into drainage ditches going under the small roads in this area. I highly recommend some of the other gunpowder rivers however, great fun, just not this stretch. Says Rudyrudell
The beautiful scenery of Baltimore County and the beautiful way the water current moves down
the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. The Graves Run Road to Prettyboy
Reservoir stretch of Gunpowder Falls in Baltimore County is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The put-in location is a short drive from York-Hanover, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There's camping available near Gunpowder Falls. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
