The Pigs Ear Road to Yough River Lake stretch of Mill Run in Maryland is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and
if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wonderful Maryland scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Mill Run will make you feel great. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Mill Run doesn't have a lot
of paddling sections, the Pigs Ear Road to Yough River Lake section is the only one. The campgrounds here at Mill Run are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: During the summertime at Mill Run highs are usually in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are typically in
the 30's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Mill Run descend into the 10's. The high level of rain makes Mill Run a quite wet spot; the month with most of the rain is July while February is typically the driest month.
