The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Muddy Creek in Garrett County is 3.7 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The Below Browning Dam to eddy right above Muddy Creek Falls section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The beautiful
scenery of Maryland and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Great exercise and just being out on the
river for a while are great reasons to come. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Muddy Creek is a reasonably wet place regularly with much rainfall; most of the rain falls all through July, and the driest of the months is February. A short trip to Tolliver Falls is always worthwhile; close by you'll come across
a wooded vicinity called Swallow Falls State Forest. Summer at Muddy Creek comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Muddy Creek temperatures descend to the 10's. Muddy Creek Falls is a beautiful spot to explore while you're at Muddy Creek.
