If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. If you're coming from Gettysburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're a camper you can camp
at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Frederick County and the playfulness
of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Owens Creek is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: If you desire a little side journey, try Eylers Valley; you can go for a hike on the High Rock Nature Trail. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Don't leave
Owens Creek without first going for a hike along the Cunningham Falls Nature Trail. All through the warm months highs here at Owens Creek reach the 80's while night lows are commonly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight
