The Lantz to Rocky Ridge Road section of Owens Creek is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No     shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The wonderful Frederick County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: Eylers Valley is a brilliant spot to look at, and on a splendid day you can take a hike along the Cunningham Falls Nature Trail. A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Owens Creek; May is when you get   the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. This is such a wonderful river. While you're here at Owens Creek you can take a hike along the High Rock Nature Trail. You don't must go far from Owens Creek to enjoy Blacks Hilltop Orchard, and don't miss out on a journey to Catoctin Mountain Park while you're here. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Owens Creek. Summer nighttime lows dip down to the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's; nighttime lows in the 10's for Owens Creek.
