If you're coming from Hagerstown-Martinsburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The natural beauty of Maryland and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of Potomac River is 13.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according
to American Whitewater. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: A typical amount of rain falls here at Potomac River; through May this area sees the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. On a
good day at Potomac River you can take a hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. High temperatures at Potomac River throughout the long summer days are in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's, and night lows all through the wintertime for Potomac River tend to be in the 20's.
