If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The natural beauty of Montgomery County and the cool fresh     water make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This section of Potomac River in Montgomery County is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: From a rain point of view Potomac River is a pretty typical spot; May is the wettest month with most rain; February is the month with the least moisture. For the period of the summertime months at Potomac River highs are generally in the 80's. For the   duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are generally in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Potomac River. The Swamp Trail offers hiking at its best, and if you're looking for a magnificent visit, Glen Echo Park is pretty near. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Potomac River; Upland Trail is a tremendous local trail.
