The wonderful Maryland scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The Little Falls section of Potomac River in Montgomery County is 2 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, as
you can see on the road map further down. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.
Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Potomac River.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Potomac River through the warm months are in the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Potomac River. If the weather is brilliant here at Potomac
River, you can go for a hike along the Swamp Trail. While you're here at Potomac River you can take a hike along the Upland Trail, and Glen Echo Park is a very perfect spot to pop by. Potomac River is a good site of normal rainfall; during the month of May you get the most rain around here while February is mostly the driest month.
