The starting point is not too far from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maryland are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots
of paddling places. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Military Road to Potomac River in D. section is one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Maryland and the sparkling of the sunlight on
the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Rock Creek is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Rock Creek is right by the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail; Klingle Valley is another pleasant place to have a look at close by. Throughout the days of summer here at Rock Creek, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures
drop down into the 60's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Rock Creek. Hiking along the Western Ridge Trail is delightful fun, and Jumpin' Jack Spring is a fine local attraction. A typical amount of rain falls here
at Rock Creek; the month with most of the rain is May, and February meanwhile is the driest month. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. A day at Bathing Beach in close proximity to Rock Creek is time well spent, and Glen Echo Park is a great spot nearby.
