This stretch of Rock Creek is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The nature scenery of Maryland and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the
river for a while are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Western Ridge Trail is glorious fun; a visit to Rock Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Jumpin' Jack Spring. A delightful place close to Rock Creek is Klingle Valley; if you're looking for a beach close by we recommend Bathing Beach. At this river you will never have a bad time. The panoramas
at Glen Echo Park will blow your mind, and Rock Creek is right by the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail. For the period of the days of summer at Rock Creek temperatures are mostly in the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's;
winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Rock Creek. The yearly precipitation here at Rock Creek is about average; through May this area sees the most rain while February is ordinarily the driest month.
