Massachusetts whitewater - Assabet River, Middlesex/Worcester County Middlesex/Worcester county, Route 117 to Route 62 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     1.5 miles   The nature scenery of Massachusetts and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Assabet River in Massachusetts is 1.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. If you're coming from Worcester it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Route 117 to Route 62 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Assabet River. You can pitch a tent or     park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Massachusetts is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: Assabet River gets much water; during the month of November you get the most rain around here while February is generally the driest month. During your stay at Assabet River do go to nearby Memorial Beach. Summertime highs at Assabet River typically tend to be in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's.
