The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here.     No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. There are no other stretches to paddle along Charles River than the Needham Rapids stretch. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a very short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Charles River is a wet place that gets a lot of rain; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain, and June is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Charles River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's.
