The beautiful scenery of Franklin County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bennington, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Massachusetts tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Chickley River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Route 8A to Deerfield River stretch is the only
one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. This stretch of Chickley River is 6 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: From a rain point of view Chickley River is a pretty typical place; August is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Chickley
River during the summertime are in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and night lows in the 10's for Chickley River. Don't leave Chickley River without first paying a visit to Moody Spring, and everybody nearby loves skiing at Berkshire East.
