If you're coming from Springfield it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes.
No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Holyoke stretch
is the only paddling stretch along Connecticut River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The nature scenery of Massachusetts and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: A spree to South Hadley Falls will fill your spirit with delightful feelings. Summertime at Connecticut River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures
dip down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Connecticut River. Connecticut River is a quite wet place regularly with a lot of rain; through the month of May you get the most rain around here while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
